Artist Trading Cards
Hey guys! I just wanted to share with you this new found art thing I learned about. Apparently there is this whole movement that started in Switzerland in 1996 where artists started creating these cards for fun and traded them to each other. They usually use all kinds of mediums not just drawing or painting but mixed media too. I chose to start off with more traditional comic type illustrations because thats what i love! I plan on trading these as well as giving them away as bonuses from time to time with purchases at my store. Tonight i did my first three and I had a lot of fun with it. It's something i can do real quick and experiment with colors and mediums without feeling too tied down to a perfect art piece! I may also eventually make some sets for duplication if it seems people are into them. But for now it's just a fun easy art project. Hope you like! The What and How For more info on where these came from and how to make your own check these two links http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards and http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Artist-Trading-Cards Wanna Trade? If your interested in making some of these and trading with me and others email me at [email protected] or just comment to this post! I plan on starting a group of peeps to trade with from time to time for fun. Don't worry if you don't consider yourself an artist you can still try your hand at it. It will be fun!!! Also let me know what you think of my first three! God Bless, Calmplex Find Calmplex at Twitter, YouTube, Bandcamp and Facebook or email him at [email protected] Street Rat This is an illustration ive been working on for my buddy Reveal also from the crew Shadow of the Locust. Awhile back Reveal put out an album titled "God Choozes the Foolish" but never really printed it up with a cover and stuff. So he asked his homie Calmplex to hook him up. Well ive actually taken way too long to get this done but here it is! The inks are done and dried and all i need to do now is go in and color it with Gimp. Reveal's Story The Idea behind this image that Reveal wanted me to portray is in the title of the album. There's a scripture in the bible that says "but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;" 1 Corinthians 1:27 In this Image you see a somewhat auto biographical portrate of a man sleeping on the side walk as a consequence of foolish choices in his life. It's the nightmare i think we all hope to avoid but sometimes our choices combined with a harsh reality brings things like this about. And so it did at one point in Reveals life on the corner of Hope and 3rd St. This was obviously a turning point in his life where God extended His hand of Grace down to a downtrodden man and choosing him for a greater destiny. The Art What you don't see in this image is something that i will add later. Beyond coloring it I plan on adding a depiction of The Spirit of God basicly ascending upon the man as he sleeps. Not sure exactly how i will do this yet but i have some idea's i will play around with. If anyone has any suggestions let me know im allways open to suggestions. Also another note about the drawing i might add is you may notice the perspective is kinda funky. This is intentional. Not to say i'm really good at perspective anyway but when i was doing the thumbnails i noticed the one for this was off perspective wise and i decided to keep it that way. I think it adds to the dreamy disoriented nature of the situation. I'm hoping with the more extreme forshortening or sort of ants eye view of the building and street sign that it kind of lends to the drama of the situation. SOTL fans may also notice the 'Locust Tri-une' shape sort of hidden in the moon craters. Hope you guys enjoy! Stay tuned for updates and please feel free to comment, suggest, etc. Look for Reveal on his Facebook Page! Wassup everyone how you been? Welcome to my new sketch blog! As many know I am not only into music but ive also been drawing since nursary school and have always wanted to be a comic book artist among other things. Well this is the section of the site where i will be posting sketches, thoughts and progress on visual art projects im involved in. In the future i plan on creating some comics, mini comics, animated video's and all sorts of stuff. So definately stay tuned if your into that kind of stuff. Locust Is Us Todays entry is a quick doodle type of sketch i did for my boy Jeremy. He recently sent a little doodle to me of my name with locust's all around it and i figured id hook him up also. This was all straight ball point pen from my mind to the page so if you see any flaws (like the fact that i totally forgot the 's' in locust and had to kinda cheat to put it in there lol) than blame it on the freestyle nature of this piece. So anyways thanks for checking in... Definately leave any comments or questions in the comment section if you'd like. I allways appreciate feedback and i allways respond!
