Hello everyone! I just wanted to send a quick note that I will be showing off new toys, stickers and comics tomorrow in Springfield and Id love to see you there! More information below with some images of stuff I will have at my table. Thanks for your support! - Marshall 'PLEX' Couture of DonkeyJawProjects.com Squid Skilla!!! will be debuting August 25 at BING Con!!! This guy was super fun to make using a lot of fun suggestions from friends and family on social media sites. As much fun as he was he was also a ton of work! I definitely had a lot more on my plate with this guy then I did with MOLT. Biggest reasons for that is the more involved color scheme and those ding dang suction cups! I did however get to hone my resin casting skills and I learned a lot about the whole process of making these things with this project. I will be posting a detailed process blog with pics of every step of the way very soon so stay tuned for that and for further announcement of when these will be available for sale online. Thanks for stopping by! here's some more images to wet your appetite! Wassup yall it's PLEX! Just wanted to show yall what I was working on tonight. Basically this morning I was reading about sculpting and really wanted to get my hands into some sculpey. So as I was checking video subscriptions on YouTube I stumbled across KYZO's new speed art video of his character. I really dug the new character and thought I bet I could sculpt him. So that's what I did! First I started with a super simple shape with tin foil so as to not waist too much sculpey and also to use as a simple armature. Next I built a basic shape and boiled it for 2 minutes in a pot. Most people bake sculpey but it's a little known fact, from what I hear, that you can boil it as well... pssst and it's much quicker! So I continued on like that adding details, boiling, sanding, adding details, boiling sanding etc. till I came up with what you see to the above! This was just a for fun project and I'm hoping KYZO approves. Next I'll probably paint him or who knows maybe even make some resin casts if KYZO's interested. I think this guy could easily be a fun little DIY platform to paint. This character is about 2" x 2". You can check the whole collection of process pictures I took in the little photo gallery below. Enjoy! And let me know what you think!!! First painting on a DIY toy specifically one of the RoseArt Color Blanks. I
talk about some of my trial and error using cheap paint and paint markers. And also showing the new how to book I got on toy making, Pop Sculpture by Tim Bruckner, Zach Oat and Ruben Procopio. God Bless, -Marshall aka Calmplex Also Find me on Twitter, Facebook,YouTube, and DeviantArt. You can also email me here Did this Commission for Jamie Gambell of his character "The Occultist" last night while watching netflix with my wife. I actually penciled in this drawing like three times before landing on this shot. The other versions tended to be closer to a more realistic comic book style hero but I'm trying to stick to this underground comic/cartoony style ive been doing lately.
The idea I think with these commission's is to re interpret the characters into your own style. If someone is purchasing from me Im assuming that's what they're looking for. This character has not yet graced an actual comic book but Jamie has plans to introduce him in one of his titles in the not too distant future! He definitely has an interesting story and should prove to mystify! If you want to read a character bio you can check it out at this link. Check out more of what Jamie's up to at JamieGambell.com And if your interested in a commission feel free to hit me up via my Commission Page! Thanks for Checkin In!!! Can you guess what movie i had playing in the background while making these? ;)

Hey guys! I just wanted to share with you this new found art thing I learned about. Apparently there is this whole movement that started in Switzerland in 1996 where artists started creating these cards for fun and traded them to each other. They usually use all kinds of mediums not just drawing or painting but mixed media too. I chose to start off with more traditional comic type illustrations because thats what i love! I plan on trading these as well as giving them away as bonuses from time to time with purchases at my store. Tonight i did my first three and I had a lot of fun with it. It's something i can do real quick and experiment with colors and mediums without feeling too tied down to a perfect art piece! I may also eventually make some sets for duplication if it seems people are into them. But for now it's just a fun easy art project. Hope you like! The What and How For more info on where these came from and how to make your own check these two links http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards and http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Artist-Trading-Cards Wanna Trade? If your interested in making some of these and trading with me and others email me at [email protected] or just comment to this post! I plan on starting a group of peeps to trade with from time to time for fun. Don't worry if you don't consider yourself an artist you can still try your hand at it. It will be fun!!! Also let me know what you think of my first three! God Bless, Calmplex Find Calmplex at Twitter, YouTube, Bandcamp and Facebook or email him at [email protected] |
